My original contact with Derby Museum came after a twitter conversation. The @DMNature account has released a tweet saying that they were trying to get the original composition ‘Aves’ by local musician and composer Richard Birkin released onto CD for sale in the shop. I replied, as I had heard it playing in the gallery, saying how it would make a great basis for a piece of film work, resulting in an invitation to visit the museum to discuss the idea further with Andrea Hadley-Johnson, the co-production manager.
It was the first piece of work I completed at the museum and was a labour of love. My aim was to evoke the journey of the gallery re-imagining, as a reminder for those involved, as well as allow those who did not actively take part to understand parts of what was completed.
The reception was really positive, with a general release on Twitter and via other social media. See the full video below.
