Between September 2019 and August 2024, I worked as a part of the Derby Homes Board as a Tenant Board Member. The work is varied and has at times been challenging, learning to balance the personal experience I have as a tenant with the wider requirements of the role I fulfil.
Derby Homes is one of the most principled organisations I have been involved with. Seeing the commitment that the senior management team and other board members demonstrate to their work is a pleasure. I hope to be able to continue to contribute to the wider work around housing in Derby and expand upon my involvement as my knowledge grows.
This role in particularly important to me given the opportunity it affords me to positively influence housing in Derby, where I live. Having had an experience of needing to declare myself homeless and the affect this had on me, I appreciate how crucial secure safe and happy homes contribute to the welfare and health of a community.
